Bash schön bunt

Hallo,
als LinuxUser bin ich überrascht, dass mein ls unter bash so langweilig
"unbunt ist".
Nachdem ich eine DIR_COLORS in /etc/ angelegt habe schrieb ich noch
folgends in die /etc/profile

eval `dircolors --sh /etc/DIR_COLORS`
alias ls="ls --color=auto"

mit dem Ergebnis:
dircolors: command not found

Kurzer Hinweis was fehlt, wenn man auf einem FreeBSD bash-2.05b
kompiliert hat noch um den Befehl "dircolors" zu bekommen?
