Dir ist schon klar, daß das Plattenbündel mindestens 20 mal
mehr Strom verbraucht als eine normale 20Gbyte-Platte?
(Und vermutlich ebensoviel mal mehr Wärme und Lärm macht.)

Nur so als Hinweis bzw. Reality-check ... ;-)

Davon abgesehen sollten HVD-Controller auf eBay zu finden
sein. Damit kann (und will) ja heutzutage kaum noch jemand
etwas anfangen. Controller von Adaptec oder NCR/SB/LSI
sollten einfach so unter FreeBSD laufen, behaupte ich mal.
