Per Default ist DMA bei allen ATAPI-Geräten disabled, weil
einige von denen nicht richtig funktionieren (zumindest mit
dem FreeBSD-ata-Treiber), auch wenn sie von sich behaupten,
daß sie's können.

Bei mir habe ich in /boot/loader.conf folgende Zeile:
hw.ata.atapi_dma="1"

Und nach 'nem Reboot schaut's dann so aus:

 | acd0: DVD-ROM <TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-C2502> at ata0-slave UDMA33

und Dank atapicam natürlch auch:

 | cd0 at ata0 bus 0 target 1 lun 0
 | cd0: <TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-C2502 1711> Removable CD-ROM SCSI-0 device
 | cd0: 33.000MB/s transfers

Echte SCSI-DVD-ROM-Laufwerke sind schweineteuer, und ich
habe die bisher auch nur als SE-Ausführung gesehen (kein
LVD).

Eine Lösung wäre so ein ATA-SCSI-Adapter, aber für LVD
sind die auch nicht ganz billig. Um ganz ehrlich zu sein,
ich würde mir das an einem Bus, an dem noch mehrere »rich-
tige« SCSI-Geräte hängen, eher nicht antun. Das mit dem
Kabelsalat ist natürlich auch 'n Argument ... Aber mit
diesen UDMA-Rundkabeln hält sich das in Grenzen.
