Ich habe mir die Webseite nicht angeschaut, aber anhand
Deiner Beschreibung geht es wohl um eine netzabhängige
Konfiguration des Notebooks.

Bei mir habe ich es so gelöst, daß ich alle veränderlichen
Dateien (fstab, ntp.conf, rc.conf.local und ein paar ande-
re) in mehreren Version angelegt habe, jeweils mit einem
angehängten Suffix .home, .office, .offline usw.

Beim Booten guckt ein Skript in /etc/rc.early nach, in was
für einem Netz ich bin, und setzt dann Symlinks, z.B. von
fstab.office nach fstab. Das Skript hat einfach eine Liste
von Netzen, konfiguriert der Reihe nach den NIC auf jedes
Netz und guckt, ob dort das Gateway angepingt werden kann.
Einfach, aber funktionell. (BOOTP oder DHCP wäre natürlich
eleganter, aber das geht nicht überall.)

Bei Bedarf kann ich gelegentlich mal mein /etc/rc.early-
Skript hier posten (momentan ist das Notebook aus und off-
line).

PS: Ich verwende FreeBSD 4, aber es sollte prinzipiell
auch mit FreeBSD 5 gehen.
