Ich fürchte, 16 Mbyte RAM ist zu wenig für die Standard-
Installation von FreeBSD 5.x. Man könnte vielleicht eine
eigene Installations-Floppy bauen, die mit 16 Mbyte klar-
kommt, aber ich bin glaube nicht, daß sich der Aufwand
lohnt.

Ich habe auf meinem ganz alten Notebook (486SX-20, 4 Mbyte
RAM) bis vor kurzem noch FreeBSD 2.2.8 verwendet, weil das
halt noch schön schlank war und alles hatte, was ich dort
brauchte. (Leider hat die Hardware dann das Zeitliche ge-
segnet.)

In Deinem Fall würde ich empfehlen, einfach bei FreeBSD 4.x
zu bleiben.
