Ich kenne/verwende XMMS nicht, aber die Locale-Namen des
Betriebssystems findest Du unter /usr/share/locale. Da
kann man z.B. »de_DE.ISO8859-15« verwenden. Es gibt aller-
dings (leider) auch Programme, die für ihre Messages und
Fonts eigene Namensschemata verwenden.
