UDMA100 mit Promise langsam ?

Ich habe hier eine Kiste mit FreeBSD 4.3-STABLE auf einem
ASUS CUBX-E (mit Promise UDMA 100 onboard) laufen:

Wenn ich etwas auf der Platte entpacke oder einfach nur viel auf der
Platte mache, dann steht das System nahezu komplett. Selbst fuer das
Abspielen von MP3's reicht es nicht mehr.

Von UDMA100 haette ich etwas mehr erwartet.
