Kann es sein, daß die betreffenden Dateinamen Umlaute oder
andere nicht-ASCII-Zeichen enthalten? Dann wär der Effekt
einleuchtend und logisch.

Anderenfalls: Was für Dateien sind betroffen? Es sollte
eine Gemeinsamkeit erkennbar sein.
