Ich habe genau das (»make index«) vor kurzem auf einem 4.10
gemacht. Es dauerte zwar ein bißchen, lief aber ohne Pro-
bleme durch.

Daraus kann ich nur schließen, daß mit Deinem /usr/ports
etwas nicht stimmt. Du solltest mal ein cvsup-Update von
einem verläßlichen cvsup-Server durchführen, und dabei auch
die Ausgabe auf evtl. Meldungen überprüfen (am besten in
eine Log-Datei tee'en und dann mit grep -v wursteln).

Wenn das nicht hilft, tonnifiziere Dein /usr/ports komplett
und hol Dir ein frisches /pub/FreeBSD/ports/ports.tar.gz
von einem FTP-Server (ftp7.de.freebsd.org ist z.B. aktuell).
