Auf http://www.xmms.org/plugins.php?details=85 liest man, neben
wüsten Beschimpfungen, allerdings:

xmms-arts_0.5 is a better plugin

        Search for the xmms-arts_0.5 plugin. This one is much better than
        arts_output. Does not have the buffer problems or audio dropout.
        This plugin is in the Debian package repository.

xmms-arts_output scheint wohl vom Bauen her unkomplizierter zu sein,
aber qualitativ besser ist offensichtlich xmms-arts. Da würde ich
einfach mal beide ausprobieren.
