In der JPEG-Bibliothek (FreeBSD package jpeg-6b o. ä.) ist ein Tool
namens djpeg (decompress jpeg) dabei. Beispielsweise so:

% djpeg -pnm daemonnew.jpg | head -2
480 360

Andere Variante:

% jpegtran -verbose daemonnew.jpg >/dev/null
