mysql bringt output statt console

Hallo Liste

Bin mir ein kleines IDS am installieren und hab da nun
das Problem, dass wenn ich mysql -uroot -p ausführe,
ich nicht die PW eingabe aufforderung bekomme, sondern
jedesmal die Hilfe ala:

Usage: mysql [OPTIONS] [database]

  -?, --help Display this help and exit.
  -A, --no-auto-rehash No automatic rehashing. One has to use 'rehash' to
                        get table and field completion. This gives a quicker
                        start of mysql and disables rehashing on reconnect.
  -B, --batch Print results with a tab as separator, each row on
                        a new line. Doesn't use history file.
  --character-sets-dir=...

Ich habe Version mysql Ver 11.18 Distrib 3.23.57

an was koennte dies liegen ?... finde mit google keine loesung....
