Floppy will nicht

Hallo zusammen,

Versuche gerade, mein Floppy Laufwerk wieder in Gang zu bringen,
bekomme aber immer folgenden Fehler:

toyon# mount /floppy
msdos: /dev/fd0: Input/output error

in /var/log/messages steht dann noch:

May 31 11:07:38 toyon /toyon: fd0c: hard error reading fsbn 0 of 0-3
(ST0 40<abnrml> ST1 4<sec_not_fnd> ST2 0 cyl 0 hd 0 sec 1)

fdformat will auch nicht so recht:

toyon# fdformat /dev/fd0
Format 1440K floppy `/dev/fd0'? (y/n): y
Processing fdformat: ioctl(FD_FORM): Input/output error

kernel ist generic, sollte also auch keine probleme bereiten,
entsprechend meldet die Kiste ja auch:

toyon# dmesg | grep fd
fdc0: <NEC 72065B or clone> at port 0x3f0-0x3f5,0x3f7 irq 6 drq 2 on
isa0
fdc0: FIFO enabled, 8 bytes threshold
fd0: <1440-KB 3.5" drive> on fdc0 drive 0
