gtk-config Problem beim Kompilieren

Hallo liebe Leute,

ich habe ein Problem mit dem Kompilieren des mail/faces Ports. Ich habe
den Port mit der Option -DWITHOUT_X11 versucht zu kompilieren, weil ich
kein X-Window System installiert habe und auch keines installieren
möchte, bekomme aber folgende Fehlermeldung:

checking for GTK - version >= 1.2.0... no
*** The gtk-config script installed by GTK could not be found
*** If GTK was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in
*** your path, or set the GTK_CONFIG environment variable to the
*** full path to gtk-config.
configure: error: Cannot find GTK: Is gtk-config in path?

Im Makefile steht, daß diese Option den Port ohne X11/GTK Unterstützung
baut. Daher bin ich etwas ratlos. Google sagte, daß das Problem auch bei
der Kompilation anderer Ports aufgetaucht ist, aber eine Lösung habe ich
nicht gefunden. Der Maintainer hat leider bisher nicht geantwortet. Weiß
jemand Rat?
