stimmte, TERM ist nun cons25l1 und meine /etc/rc.config sieht nun so
aus:

font8x8="iso-8x8"
font8x14="iso-8x14"
font8x16="iso-8x16"
keymap="german.iso"

und in der environment sieht es so aus:

export LANG=de_DE.ISO_8859-1
export MM_CHARSET=iso-8859-1
