Having got the sources by FTP it's worth installing the cvsup port and
using it to make sure that the source is up-to-date with the branch that
you're using. This is the officially supported way of keeping in sync.

There are entries in the handbook to help you with cvsup if you get
stuck, or the questions(at)freebsd.org mailing list.
